Department of Health and Human Services Mandate: What You Can Do
The recent ruling by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, mandating that contraceptives and abortifacients be included in all health care plans, even those offered by Catholic institutions, is a concern for Catholics. While this mandate challenges the teaching of the Church regarding love and life, the overriding question remains the challenge by the government to conscience rights and our Constitutional rights to religious liberty.
Bishop Burbidge has asked all the faithful in the Diocese to refer to our diocesan website in order to be kept current on the response of the Church regarding this matter. On our diocesan website, you may find the following:
1) A copy of the letter from Bishop Burbidge on this issue.
2) An interview with the Bishop regarding the HHS decision and the follow-up announcement by the President.
3) The most recent statements from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Bishop Burbidge repeats his urgent request to all of the faithful in the Diocese of Raleigh to contact our Senators and Representatives so that our voice is heard especially at this critical time when Religious Freedom and our conscience rights under the Constitution of the United States are placed in jeopardy. You may find the latest information on how to contact your elected officials by visiting the website for Catholic Voice North Carolina. While you are at the site, sign up for continued alerts from our bishops in North Carolina on other matters of interest to all the Catholic faithful
