An Open Letter of Gratitude to the organizers and leaders and servants of the event known as The Annual Elegant English Tea

This year’s “High Tea” took place last Sunday at the Raleigh Country Club, and the pleasantness of the company and the demonstration of Christian graciousness would have made any pastor proud.

I thank the AAMEN group of St. Joseph’s Parish for their care in making the occasion an exercise in civility – so necessary if a civiliza-tion endures – and, beyond that, of charity: in the relationships forged during the af-ternoon, and in the end, which is to affirm those children and youth not born with “silver spoons in their mouths” (as they will say, “Do you know what I mean?”)

As in the past, AAMEN was able to provide a broad base for the event. Both the resourcefulness and the co-operation of all the women on the leadership team were conspicuous. Our good neighbors at the RCC, whose property is adjacent to ours, courteously received the patrons of the event and provided the correct environment.

A word of challenge to the gentlemen: the men’s Bible study and the men’s Prayer Group have, praise God, appeared this past year to complement Dr. Young’s Men’s (Study) Group. How about an event initiative in 2012-2013?... or, better still, make that parish-based Knights of Columbus glow with an honorable and a practical brotherhood, modeling out service for our youth, and making for support for parish life generally.

Infant Baptisms

Over the years, St. Joseph’s has made great efforts to schedule Baptisms on the day of the parents’ request, and usually individually. All of our parishioners know that this is not the situation in parishes much smaller than ours, not to speak of the large parishes in our area.

Alas, the scheduling is getting more and more complex. We are trying to confer Holy Baptism to infants at least monthly, on Saturdays.

Do not have relatives locked into travel plans before arrangements are secured at the Church! There are also requirements for godparents which the Parish Secretary can convey.
